Welcome, I’m Dr. Wonbin.

Here to Support Your Healing Journey from Religious Trauma

If you’ve experienced religious trauma, you’re not alone—and I’m here to walk alongside you as you heal. Whether you’re questioning long-held beliefs, processing painful experiences, or trying to understand how your faith has shaped your life, my goal is to offer you a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental space to explore, heal, and rebuild your sense of self.

As a queer, first-generation immigrant therapist, I understand that religion can shape every part of your identity—how you see yourself, your relationships, and your place in the world. It can be incredibly difficult to navigate when those beliefs are questioned or feel like they’ve caused harm. That’s where I come in. I’m here to listen, support, and help you find your way through the pain toward a place of healing, empowerment, and peace.

What is Religious Trauma?

Religious trauma can manifest in many ways. It might result from abusive teachings, shaming behavior, or exclusion because of who you are. It can also come from the conflict between your personal beliefs and what you were taught to believe. If your religious upbringing or experiences have caused you to feel confused, isolated, or even unworthy, this trauma is real—and it’s worth addressing.

You might be experiencing:

  • Guilt, shame, or fear about your identity, especially around sexuality, gender, or personal beliefs.

  • Confusion or loss of meaning after leaving or questioning your faith.

  • Fear of rejection or a deep sense of isolation from family, community, or spiritual connections.

  • Difficulty trusting yourself or others after a religious community or system has let you down.

If any of this resonates with you, know that you are not broken—you are healing, and I am here to help guide you through that process.

How I Can Help You Heal

Healing from religious trauma is a journey, and it requires patience, self-compassion, and a willingness to explore the wounds you’ve carried. In our work together, you will never be judged, shamed, or made to feel like you’re wrong for questioning your beliefs. I’ll be your supportive ally as we work through the emotional and mental weight that religious trauma can leave behind.

Together, we’ll focus on:

  • Processing and understanding your experiences, without feeling rushed or pressured to come to conclusions about your faith.

  • Rebuilding your sense of self and finding a healthy relationship with spirituality that feels authentic to you.

  • Breaking free from guilt, shame, and fear that may have been imposed by religious teachings, and replacing them with compassion, understanding, and empowerment.

  • Developing new ways of thinking about your identity, worth, and relationship to the world that are freeing and nurturing.

  • Creating a safe space for emotional healing, where you can express your feelings and experiences without fear of rejection or judgment.

Why Work with Me?

I understand that religious trauma can be incredibly isolating and confusing. As someone who has navigated complex identities myself, I offer a space where you can feel fully seen and understood. My approach is rooted in empathy, respect, and an open mind, allowing you to heal at your own pace.

I’m not here to tell you what to believe. I’m here to help you uncover your truth, reclaim your power, and build an authentic and fulfilling life without the burden of past religious harm.
